Sport Management Graduate Program

Overview

The MA and Ph.D. degrees in Sport Management & Sociology prepare students in the theoretical, research, and where appropriate, applied dimensions of these fields of study. Further, the interdisciplinary nature of these concentrations affords students a considerable amount of flexibility in terms of areas of specialization.

The MA degree in Sport Management & Sociology requires students to select either a thesis or internship option. The thesis option consists of 24 credit hours (8 courses) of coursework and 9 credit hours of thesis research. The internship option consists of 27 credit hours (9 courses) and a 6 credit internship following the completion of all coursework.

The Ph.D. degree in Sport Management and Sociology is a program designed around the theoretical frameworks of these disciplines, as well as the applied nature of sport in our society. Core courses are determined in conjunction with the student's major advisor to include a minimum of 9 credit hours of research, 18 credits within Sport Management and Sociology, and 8 credit hours in the Laboratory for Sport Management and Sociology. Students have chosen to specialize in such disciplines as Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Educational Leadership, Marketing, Management, and Finance. Cognate areas require a minimum of three courses (15 hours).
